Quick question
Is dirt stealing your solar savings?
You paid for every panel on your roof. A professional clean makes sure every one of them is working for you again.
Why clean your solar panels?
Clean panels convert more sunlight into power. But a professional clean does more than restore output – it’s also a chance to spot problems before they cost you.
Restore lost output
Light dust usually costs a few percent. Bird droppings, leaves and lichen can cost more, because shading part of one panel can pull down the output of the whole string.
Catch faults early
While on the roof our technicians look for cracked glass, loose cabling, damaged frames, nesting birds and hot spots, and tell you what they find.
Protect your warranty
Panel manufacturers expect reasonable care. Regular professional cleaning with approved methods helps show your system has been looked after.
Keep runoff out of your tank
Bird droppings and grime on the roof are health hazards if they wash into a rainwater tank. We divert tank downpipes during the clean.
Get more from your battery
Higher daytime output means more surplus to store. Pair your clean with a battery health check.
No risk to you
No ladders, no roof-walking, no guesswork. Trained technicians with the right access and fall-protection gear.
What’s included in every solar panel clean
A dedicated professional, the right equipment and a clear report – not just a quick rinse.
Output check
We record your system’s output from the inverter or app before we start.
Safe access
Roof access with fall protection, and tank downpipes diverted if needed.
Gentle clean
Purified water and soft brushes lift dirt without scratching glass or leaving spots.
Visual inspection
Glass, frames, cabling, isolators and mounting checked for damage or wear.
After report
Before-and-after output and photos, plus anything that needs attention.
DIY cleaning vs a professional clean
Hosing panels from a ladder looks simple. Here’s why most homeowners leave it to a specialist.
| DIY with a hose or pressure washer | Eco Solar professional clean | |
|---|---|---|
| Safety | Ladders and wet roofs are a serious fall risk | Trained technicians with fall protection |
| Panel care | Pressure, hard water and detergents can damage coatings or leave residue | Purified water and soft brushes only |
| Stubborn grime | Bird droppings and lichen often stay put | Removed without scraping |
| System check | Not included | Visual inspection and output comparison |
| Rainwater tanks | Runoff can wash into your tank | Downpipes diverted during the clean |
How often should you clean solar panels?
| Your property | Suggested cleaning |
|---|---|
| Typical suburban home | Every 12 months |
| Near tall trees or parkland | Every 6–12 months |
| Farms, unsealed roads, quarries | Every 6 months |
| Near the coast | Every 6 months (salt film) |
| Near construction or busy roads | Every 6 months |
| Low-tilt or flat panels | Every 6–12 months |

Solar panel cleaning FAQs
How much does solar panel cleaning cost?
The price depends on how many panels you have, the number of storeys, roof pitch and access, and how dirty the panels are. We give upfront pricing before we book, with no hidden costs.
How often should solar panels be cleaned in Victoria?
For most Melbourne homes, once a year is enough. Homes near trees, farms, busy roads, the coast or construction sites may benefit from a clean every six months, and after heavy dust or smoke events.
Does cleaning solar panels increase output?
Yes, when panels are dirty. Light dust usually costs a few percent of output, but bird droppings, leaves and lichen can cost more because shading part of one panel can pull down the output of a whole string. We record output before and after each clean.
Isn’t rain enough to clean solar panels?
Rain rinses off loose dust, but it doesn’t remove bird droppings, sap, lichen or the grime that builds up along the bottom edge of panels, especially on low-tilt roofs.
Can I clean my solar panels myself?
Working on a roof is dangerous, and pressure washers, hard tap water, abrasive brushes and detergents can damage panel glass coatings or leave residue. If you clean from the ground, use a soft brush and purified water only. For roof access, use a professional.
Do you clean solar panels installed by other companies?
Yes. We clean and inspect any brand of solar panels, whoever installed them. If we spot a fault during the clean, we’ll show you and quote any repair separately. Solar repairs.
Will cleaning affect my rainwater tank?
We don’t use harsh chemicals. If your roof feeds a rainwater tank, tell us when booking and we’ll divert the downpipe during the clean so runoff with bird droppings and grime doesn’t enter the tank.
