Will a battery work with my existing solar?
Usually, yes. What we need depends on your current inverter. Tell us the brand in the form above, or send a photo of the inverter label, and we’ll confirm before quoting.
- Battery-ready hybrid inverterThe battery can often connect directly to your existing inverter, which keeps the cost down.
- Standard solar inverterWe add the battery with its own hybrid or battery inverter. Your existing panels keep working as they do now.
- Older or faulty systemWe may recommend replacing the inverter first so the whole system works effectively.
Why add a battery?
Without a battery, most of the solar you make while you’re out goes back to the grid for a small feed-in credit.
Use your solar at night
Run lights, cooking, TV and heating or cooling after sunset on power your panels made that day.
Lower power bills
Buy less electricity at evening peak rates and make the most of every kilowatt your solar produces.
Backup in a blackout
With a backup-ready setup, a battery can keep selected circuits or the whole home running during an outage.

Battery retrofit FAQs
Can I add a battery to any solar system?
Most systems can take a battery. If your inverter is a battery-ready hybrid, the battery can often connect directly. If not, we add a battery with its own inverter. Very old or faulty systems may need an inverter replacement first.
Do you add batteries to systems installed by other companies?
Yes. Our technicians assess systems from other installers, check compatibility and quote a battery that suits what you have. A site assessment fee may apply.
What size battery should I add?
Size it to the power you use after the sun goes down. Many homes suit 10kWh to 14kWh, larger families 20kWh to 30kWh. We size it from your bill and usage data.
Is the federal battery discount available for retrofits?
Yes. The Cheaper Home Batteries Program applies to eligible batteries added to existing solar. It is not means tested, and steps down on 1 January 2027.
