Key dates for the Solar Victoria rebate
The Solar Homes Program is in its final stretch. These are the dates that change what you get.
Income cap lowered
Combined household income must now be under $150,000.
Solar STCs fall
Solar systems lose another deeming year, so the STC discount gets smaller.
New homes all-electric
New Victorian homes must be all-electric – talk to your builder about solar early.
Solar rebate moves to VEU
Household solar support transitions from Solar Homes into the Victorian Energy Upgrades program.
STC scheme ends
The Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme is scheduled to close.
How much is the Solar Victoria rebate?
The rebate and the federal STC discount stack: STCs come off first, then the Solar Victoria rebate is calculated on the remaining price.
Solar Victoria solar panel (PV) rebate
Up to 50% of the purchase cost after STCs, to a maximum of $1,400. Limited numbers are released each month.
- Deducted from your invoice – you pay the balance after installation
- Must use an authorised retailer and listed products
- Install within 120 days of approval (270 days for homes being built)
- One rebate per address under the Solar Homes Program
Optional interest-free loan
Selected when you apply. It matches the rebate and is repaid over 4 years – about $29.17 a month.
- Interest-free – you repay only what you borrow
- Repayments start 30 days after your install is approved
- Covers part of the balance after your rebate
- Can be combined with Brighte payment plans
Smaller system?
If 50% of your price after STCs is under $1,400, that’s your rebate.
Typical system?
Most 6.6kW and larger systems reach the $1,400 maximum.
Adding a battery?
The federal battery discount comes on top. Battery rebates.
Not eligible?
STCs still apply to every eligible system, whatever your income.
Are you eligible for the Solar Victoria rebate?
You could receive the solar panel (PV) rebate if all of these apply:
- You’re the owner-occupier of an existing home, or the owner of a home under construction
- Combined taxable income of all owners is under $150,000 a year
- The property is valued under $3 million
- The address hasn’t received a Solar Homes solar or battery rebate before
- No solar has been installed at the address in the last 10 years
- You use an authorised retailer and eligible products
Moved house since your last rebate? You can apply again at a new address that hasn’t received one.
How the rebate is worked out

How to claim your Victorian solar rebate
The Solar Victoria process has several steps. As your authorised retailer, we handle most of them.
What Eco Solar does
- Designs your system using products on Solar Victoria’s eligible lists
- Gets pre-approval from your electricity distributor to connect and export
- Uploads your written quote into the Solar Victoria portal
- Applies STC and battery discounts directly on your quote
- Installs after approval and scans your QR code on site before work starts
- Deducts the rebate from your invoice – you pay the balance after installation
What you do
- Wait for Solar Victoria’s email confirming your quote is uploaded
- Upload two forms of ID, proof of income and proof of ownership
- Choose the interest-free loan when you apply, if you want it
- Wait for your eligibility approval and QR code
- Enjoy your system – and start loan repayments 30 days after install approval, if you opted in
Tip: Solar Victoria recommends not accepting a quote in writing or paying a deposit before your eligibility is confirmed. If you do pay a deposit, make sure it’s fully refundable.
Rentals, new builds and older systems
The rebate isn’t only for owner-occupiers of existing homes.
Landlords
Rental properties have their own solar rebate pathway with Solar Victoria, so tenants get cheaper power and you add value.
Homes under construction
You can apply during the build and have 270 days from approval to install.
All-electric from 2027
From 1 January 2027 new Victorian homes must be all-electric – plan solar with your builder early.
Solar over 10 years old?
You may be eligible again to replace or expand an older system, if the address hasn’t had a Solar Homes rebate.
Moved house?
A new address that hasn’t received a Solar Homes rebate can qualify, even if your old home did.
Businesses
Businesses use STCs and VEU incentives instead. Commercial rebates.

Six mistakes that cost Victorians their rebate
We see these every month. Each one can mean losing the Solar Victoria rebate entirely.
1. Installing before approval
If the system goes in before Solar Victoria confirms eligibility, there’s no rebate.
2. Using a non-authorised retailer
Only authorised solar retailers can lodge quotes in the Solar Victoria portal.
3. Choosing unlisted products
Panels and inverters must be on Solar Victoria’s product lists.
4. Paying a non-refundable deposit
If you’re then found ineligible, you may lose the deposit.
5. Missing the install window
Installation must be finished within 120 days of approval for an existing home.
6. Skipping network pre-approval
Your retailer must get distributor pre-approval to connect and explain any export limits.
