Why Victorian farms are switching to solar
Farms run pumps, fans, refrigeration and workshops through the daylight hours, often on long rural lines with expensive tariffs. Generating your own power on the property cuts that cost where it hurts most.
- Lower cost per litre and per tonnePower is a direct input cost. Solar takes a large share of it off the bill for decades.
- Peak sun meets peak loadSummer irrigation and cooling peak when the sun is strongest.
- Space you already haveMachinery sheds, hay sheds and spare paddock corners make ideal sites.
- Less exposure to price risesLocking in your own generation protects margins when tariffs climb.
- Supply-chain credentialsProcessors and buyers increasingly ask about on-farm emissions.

Farm types we power
Every operation draws power differently. We map your loads across the day and the year before we design anything.
Farm solar options
Size and mounting depend on your loads, your connection and where the sun falls on the property. Your assessment compares the options side by side.
| System size | Approx. output per day | Typically suits | Details |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50kW | ~180kWh | Smaller dairies, orchards, single cool room | 50kW solar system |
| 75kW | ~270kWh | Mid-size dairies, packing sheds, poultry sheds | Designed to your interval data |
| 96–100kW | ~345–360kWh | Large dairies, irrigation, multiple sheds | 100kW solar system |

Farm solar FAQs
What size solar system does a farm need?
Most of our farm systems are 50kW to 96kW. We size yours from your interval data, the loads you run through the day and how they change across the seasons.
Can a battery run early-morning milking?
Yes. A battery can store daytime solar for pre-dawn milking and evening loads. We size it from your usage data so it isn’t larger than it needs to be.
Roof or ground mount – which is better?
If a shed roof faces north to west, is unshaded and structurally sound, it’s usually the cheaper option. Ground mounts suit when roofs face the wrong way or you need more space, and they’re easier to clean.
Will my rural line limit the system size?
It can. Your distributor sets export limits based on your connection. We apply for network approval and design within the limit, using storage or export control where it helps.
Do you travel to regional farms?
Yes. We take farm jobs anywhere in Victoria. Any travel cost is listed on your proposal.
Are there rebates for farm solar?
Eligible farm systems create STCs, which we take as an upfront discount, and farm batteries from 5kWh to 100kWh can qualify for the federal battery discount. Commercial rebates.
How do I keep panels clean on a dusty farm?
Farm dust, chaff and bird droppings build up faster than in town, so we usually suggest a professional clean every 6 months. Solar panel cleaning.
