How rebates and finance stack
Rebates and discounts always come off first. Finance only covers what’s left.

- 2. Federal battery discountRoughly 30% off an eligible battery, at the point of sale.
- 3. Solar Victoria rebateUp to 50% of the solar cost after STCs, to a maximum of $1,400.
- 4. Interest-free loan and payment plansSpread the remaining balance over time.

Estimates only. STC values depend on the market price and your exact postcode zone. The Solar Victoria rebate is up to 50% of the cost after STCs, to a maximum of $1,400, and depends on eligibility and monthly availability. Battery figures use the published tier rates and STC factors. Your quote confirms exact amounts.
Are you eligible for the interest-free loan?
The loan follows the Solar Victoria solar rebate rules. You could qualify if all of these apply:
- You’re the owner-occupier of an existing home, or the owner of a home under construction
- Combined taxable income of all owners is under $150,000 a year
- The property is valued under $3 million
- The address hasn’t received a Solar Homes solar or battery rebate before
- No solar has been installed at the address in the last 10 years
- You use an authorised retailer and eligible products
Rental properties have their own Solar Victoria pathway. Rebate details.
Not eligible? You can still spread the cost
Missing one of the criteria doesn’t mean paying it all upfront.
- Brighte payment plansFor solar and batteries, with terms and approval set by Brighte.
- Federal discounts still applySTCs and the battery discount have no income test.
- Right-sized systemA system sized to your use keeps the amount you finance down.

Questions to ask before you finance solar
A good payment plan is one you understand completely before you sign.
What’s the total cost?
Compare the total you’ll repay, not only the monthly figure.
Are there fees?
Ask about establishment, account-keeping and late fees.
Is the price the same as paying cash?
Your system price shouldn’t go up because you finance it.
Have all rebates come off?
Check the STC discount, battery discount and Solar Victoria rebate are itemised.
Can I pay it off early?
Find out whether early repayment is allowed and what it costs.
Will savings cover repayments?
We estimate your bill savings so you can compare them with your repayments.
Want your repayments and savings side by side? We’ll show you on your quote.
Six mistakes that make solar cost more
Finance should make solar easier to afford – not more expensive.
1. Missing the loan box
The interest-free loan is chosen when you apply for the rebate – it can’t be added later.
2. Financing before rebates
Make sure every rebate is off the price before you set up a payment plan.
3. Comparing monthly costs only
A lower monthly repayment over a longer term can cost more in total.
4. Paying a non-refundable deposit
If you’re then found ineligible for the rebate, you may lose the deposit.
5. Oversizing to “use up” finance
A bigger system than you need means more to repay. Size to your use.
6. Waiting past a step-down
Battery and solar discounts fall on 1 January 2027 – the same system then costs more to finance.

Finance FAQs
Can I pay off solar and batteries over time?
Yes. Eco Solar offers Brighte payment plans, and eligible households can use the Solar Victoria interest-free loan for solar panels.
How does the Solar Victoria interest-free loan work?
It matches your solar rebate, up to $1,400, and is repaid over 4 years – about $29.17 a month. You choose it when you apply for the rebate, and repayments start 30 days after your installation is approved.
Is there an interest-free loan for batteries?
Solar Victoria is no longer taking applications for interest-free battery loans. Eligible households can still use the interest-free loan if they install new solar panels at the same time.
Are rebates deducted before finance?
Yes. STCs, the federal battery discount and the Solar Victoria rebate are all taken off your quote first, so you only finance the balance.
Can I use Brighte and the interest-free loan together?
Yes. The interest-free loan can cover part of the balance and a Brighte payment plan the rest, subject to Brighte’s approval.
What if I’m not eligible for the Solar Victoria loan?
Brighte payment plans don’t use the Solar Victoria income test, and the federal discounts still apply to your quote.
