Commercial solar and battery storage
Solar on its own covers the hours the sun is up. Add storage and your business can also cut peak demand charges, run early and late shifts on its own energy and keep critical equipment going through an outage. We design commercial solar and battery systems from your interval data and tariff, then install and support them with one accountable team.
- Free load-profile review and proposal
- Demand-charge savings modelled before you buy
- Federal discount on batteries up to 100kWh

What storage adds to commercial solar
Commercial bills often have two big parts: the energy you use and the peak you pull from the grid. Solar attacks the first. A well-sized battery attacks the second – and stretches your solar into the hours you actually trade.
- Lower demand chargesDischarge during your busiest half-hours so the network measures a smaller peak.
- Solar after sunsetCover opening prep, evening service and night shifts with energy made at midday.
- Backup for critical loadsKeep cool rooms, servers, pumps and alarms running in an outage.
- Less wasted exportStore surplus instead of exporting it for a low feed-in rate or hitting export limits.
- Smarter tariff useCharge and discharge on a schedule set for your tariff.
Businesses that gain most from storage
Storage pays off fastest where loads run outside daylight or peaks drive the bill.
Commercial solar and storage options
Battery size comes from your load profile, not a rule of thumb. These ranges show where most projects land.
| Usable storage | Typically covers | Typically suits | Discount |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15–30kWh | Opening prep, evening close, small backup | Clinics, offices, small retail | Full support on the first 14kWh |
| 30–60kWh | Evening trade and part of the night | Hospitality, cool rooms, workshops | 60% support from 14–28kWh |
| 60–100kWh | Demand peaks and overnight loads | Dairies, cold storage, manufacturing | Reduced support above 28kWh |

Solar and storage incentives for business
Two federal incentives can apply to the same project. We put both on your proposal.
Federal battery discount
Business batteries from 5kWh to 100kWh qualify. Support is tiered by usable capacity and steps down on 1 January 2027.
Battery discountSolar STC discount
The solar side of your project creates STCs, taken as an upfront discount.
Commercial rebatesTax treatment
Solar and storage are business assets. Ask your accountant how depreciation applies.
Finance optionsIncentive information checked October 2026. Amounts and eligibility can change; your proposal confirms current figures.

Commercial solar and battery FAQs
Can businesses get the federal battery discount?
Yes. The Cheaper Home Batteries Program covers small-scale battery systems from 5kWh to 100kWh for homes, businesses and community organisations.
How does a battery reduce demand charges?
The battery discharges during your highest-demand periods, lowering the peak the network measures. We model this from your interval data before quoting.
What size commercial battery do I need?
It depends on your after-hours loads and how sharp your demand peaks are. We size storage from your interval data, and because the federal discount is tiered, bigger isn’t always better value.
Can you add a battery to our existing commercial solar?
Usually, yes. We check your inverter and switchboard first; some sites need a hybrid or battery inverter added.
Will a battery keep us running in a blackout?
It can, with a backup-ready design. We agree which circuits stay on – such as refrigeration, IT or security – and size the battery for them.
Do you offer VEU incentives?
Not at this stage. We apply STCs and the federal battery discount where eligible.
How long does a commercial battery last?
Commercial lithium batteries typically carry manufacturer warranties of around 10 years. Regular health checks and firmware updates help them stay at full performance.
